Paraffin verses Soy

I have had a lot of people asking me lately about soy verses paraffin wax. So I figured I would show you all the research i did before i decided which wax i would use.. And when people say "soy blend" or "soy based" etc. It usually means they use some paraffin or other waxes mixed with the soy wax.

In the Nov/Dec 2000 edition of the Emagazine, Kathleen O'Neil wrote an article about a study involving both residential and industrial areas for toxic air contaminants. They found that chemical levels in the bodies of the subjects indicated they had received doses of pollutants in their homes five to seventy times higher than the highest outdoor levels. It should be noted that burning paraffin candles are listed in the article as contributing to the pollution contaminants. The eleven toxic compounds have been deemed "toxic air contaminants" by the State of California.

David Krause, an air quality expert, writing for the RSES Journal which is an official publication for the Refrigeration Service Engineers Society states, that "While soot is suspended in the air, room occupants are at risk of inhalation exposure. Since the particles are less than 1 micron in diameter, they can penetrate the deepest part of the lungs."

Do you know what candle soot is?

It's made up of the same components as diesel engine exhaust!

According to Mr. Krause the same could be said for candles produced with paraffin. Is this what you want in your lungs, your children's, your grandchildren?

Let's make a decision that if we don't know what's in our candles, then we won't burn them. Candles are wonderful, we all love them or many of us do, but going forward it is well worth your money, time, and effort to purchase natural gourmet candles produced and manufactured with renewable resources. For your health and for the health of those you love.

When you're looking for alternatives, please consider this:

* Select candles that burn clean
* Select candles that burn virtually soot free
* Find a quality company that cares about their product and their customer
* Find candles that are made with renewable resources and contain NATURAL wax

Natural waxes cost a bit more than paraffin waxes. But often times the money spent now is worth the product quality and safety in the long run. There is no comparison to a quality gourmet candle and your inexpensive, paraffin based "retail store" brand.

Make an informed decision today...toss out your paraffin candles and decide now, to purchase a better, safer, renewable candle product today. You won't be sorry that you did.

And that is what made my decision so much easier.
